Fomo Tutorial: How to Use the Fomo App (Step-by-Step)
From sign-up to your first trade — the whole flow, on your phone, no wallet setup.
How do you use the Fomo app?
Download Fomo, sign up with an Apple or Google account, and add money with Apple Pay or a crypto deposit — it becomes USDC, which is what you trade with. There's no wallet to set up; Fomo makes a self-custodial one for you. Then find a token or a trader to copy, tap Buy, and swipe to confirm. Selling and withdrawing work the same way. Sign up with referral code "iamsmart" or the link fomo.family/r/iamsmart to get 10% off trading fees for life. That's my referral code — you get the same discount either way.
What You'll Learn
- Signing up and applying the 10% code
- Adding funds (Apple Pay or crypto)
- Finding and following good traders
- Buying and selling a token
- Withdrawing your money out
- Beginner settings and mistakes to skip
Sign up and apply the code
Fomo is a mobile app, so this all happens on your phone. Sign up through the referral link fomo.family/r/iamsmart (or enter code iamsmart when asked) so the 10% fee discount attaches to your account from the start — you can't add it later.
- 1. Open the link and download Fomo from the App Store or Google Play.
- 2. Sign up with your Apple or Google account — no seed phrase, no separate wallet app.
- 3. Claim a username. That's it — Fomo creates a self-custodial wallet for you behind the scenes.
Why the link matters: the discount is tied to the referral at sign-up. Use the link or code now, or you'll pay full fees on every trade later.
Add funds
Tap Deposit. You'll have a few options — fund with Apple Pay or a debit card, or send a crypto deposit from another wallet or exchange. This is the step Fomo is built to make painless: no bridging, no "buy SOL somewhere else first."
One thing to know: you trade in USDC on Fomo. Whatever you add shows up as a USDC cash balance. If you deposit SOL or another token, Fomo swaps it to USDC inside the app so you're ready to trade. Your balance appears under your profile, usually within a minute.
Start small. Put in an amount you're genuinely fine losing for your first few trades. You're learning the app, not trying to retire this week.
That's my referral code — I get a credit if you use it, and you get the same 10% discount.
Get to know the app
Fomo is part trading app, part social feed. The tabs along the bottom are worth a minute:
Home
Top traders of the day and all-time, plus verified and trending coins. A quick read on where attention is.
Search
Look up a token or a person — you can follow other traders, not just coins.
Feed
See what people are trading. Filter to Friends only to watch just the wallets you follow, or leave it global to spot where a crowd is piling in.
Leaderboard
Traders ranked by profit and loss — filter by 24 hours or all-time. This is where you find people worth following.
Find and follow traders
This is Fomo's real edge over a plain trading terminal. Open the leaderboard, tap into a profile, and you can see exactly what they hold, their P&L, and every buy and sell on a given token. If a trader looks worth watching, hit Follow — their trades then show up in your Friends feed.
Read profiles with a clear eye. One giant win on a single coin isn't a track record. Look for traders who've been consistent across many trades, and remember you're usually seeing them after the big move, not before. More on this in my copy trading guide.
Buy a token
- 1 Open the token page
Tap a coin from search, the feed, or a trader's holdings. You'll see the chart, holders, and what people are saying.
- 2 Tap Buy and enter an amount
In USDC. Start small while you're learning — you can always buy more.
- 3 Swipe to confirm
Fomo buys instantly, converting USDC into the token. It then shows up in your profile.
Sell a token
Same flow in reverse. Open the token in your profile, tap Sell, choose an amount (or Max), and swipe. It sells instantly back to USDC. You can leave a comment on why you sold — taking profit, cutting a loss, whatever — which shows on your profile for anyone following you.
Have an exit before you enter. Decide what you'd sell at — up and down — before you buy. The hardest part of memecoins isn't buying, it's selling.
Withdraw your money
Because Fomo is self-custodial, your money is yours to take out any time — this is the part that proves it. Tap the three dots next to your cash balance and choose Withdraw (not Send — Send goes to other people). Pick an amount, choose the chain you want to receive on (e.g. Solana), paste your external wallet address, and confirm.
Double-check the address. Crypto withdrawals can't be reversed. Send a small test amount first if it's a wallet you haven't used before.
Bonus: your own referral link
Once you're set up, Fomo gives you a referral link too (tap the gift icon, usually top-right). You earn a cut of the trading fees from anyone who signs up through it — a small way to offset your own costs once you're comfortable with the app.
A sane starting setup
| Decision | Beginner approach |
|---|---|
| First deposit | Small — money you can fully afford to lose |
| Trade size | A few dollars per trade while learning (mind the fee minimum — see Fomo fees) |
| Copying traders | Follow first, watch a while, then copy small |
| Taking profit | Sell some on the way up — don't round-trip a winner to zero |
Common mistakes to avoid
- ⚠Skipping the code: sign up without the referral and you pay full fees forever. Use
iamsmartat sign-up. - ⚠Chasing the feed: "22 traders bought this" is attention, not a guarantee. Plenty of those are pump-and-dumps.
- ⚠Tiny trades, big fee drag: Fomo has a per-trade minimum fee, so very small trades cost a lot in percentage terms.
- ⚠Copying blind: a single 100x on someone's profile isn't a strategy. Check consistency before you mirror anyone.
- ⚠No exit plan: decide where you'll sell before you buy, both for profit and for a loss.
Referral disclosure: that's my code, so I get a credit if you use it — you get the same 10% off. Not financial advice; memecoins are risky and most traders lose money.
FAQ
How do you use the Fomo app?
Download Fomo, sign up with an Apple or Google account, and add funds with Apple Pay or a crypto deposit. Whatever you add becomes USDC, which is the currency you trade with. Then find a token (or a trader to copy), tap Buy, and swipe to confirm. Selling is the same in reverse, and you withdraw to any external wallet from your cash balance.
Do I need a crypto wallet to use Fomo?
No. Fomo creates a self-custodial wallet for you when you sign up, so there's no seed phrase to set up or bridge funds into before you start. You still control the money — you can withdraw to an external wallet whenever you want.
What do I trade with on Fomo — SOL or USDC?
USDC. Your cash balance is held in USDC, and trades go USDC → token and back. If you deposit SOL or another token, Fomo swaps it to USDC inside the app so you can trade.
How do I get 10% off fees on Fomo?
Sign up through a referral link or enter referral code "iamsmart" so the discount attaches to your account. It takes 10% off Fomo’s trading fee on every trade, for the life of the account.
Is Fomo good for beginners?
Yes — it's one of the easiest ways to start trading Solana memecoins because it skips the wallet-setup step. The honest caveat isn't the app, it's the trading: memecoins are volatile and most traders lose money, so start small.
