Is Photon Safe? Security Review 2026
Safe and worth choosing are different questions
Is Photon safe? Yes — non-custodial, no history of a breach, built by a real company. Is it still the bot to sign up for today? No. Photon was genuinely the best Solana trading bot before BullX briefly took its market share, but its own share has since fallen from roughly 30.7% to under 10%, and Axiom or Fomo are the better pick for anyone starting fresh. If you're already using Photon, there's no security reason to stop — the fee-reduction code "sellthepump" at photon-sol.tinyastro.io/@sellthepump still works.
What We Checked
Before answering whether Photon is safe, we looked into:
- Wallet architecture: Is it truly non-custodial?
- Track record: Any history of hacks or fund losses?
- Current usage: Is it still growing, or quietly declining?
- Who's behind it: Real company, or anonymous?
Security Features
Non-Custodial Wallet
Photon uses non-custodial wallet technology. This means:
- • You maintain control of your private keys
- • Photon cannot access or move your funds without your authorization
- • Every transaction requires your wallet signature
Jito Integration (MEV Protection)
Photon integrates with Jito to protect against MEV (Maximal Extractable Value) attacks — better transaction ordering, protection against sandwich attacks, and more reliable execution during volatile periods. This is real, working infrastructure, not just a marketing line.
Who's Behind Photon
Photon is built by Tiny Astro Inc., a BVI-registered company of around eight people. The same team built one of the earlier Solana NFT analytics platforms back in 2022, a year before launching Photon in late 2023 — meaning they'd already shipped a working product before this one. Photon has since attracted 1.3 million-plus users and processed $40 billion-plus in lifetime trades (per DefiLlama). That's a real, checkable company — not an anonymous side project — which matters for legitimacy even though it hasn't been enough to keep pace with Axiom and Fomo's shipping speed.
On fees: Photon charges 0.9–1% per trade with volume-based tiers that reduce the rate for high-frequency traders. On a $1,000 trade at the base rate, that's roughly $9–10 — competitive with the rest of the category, though fees were never really the reason traders picked Photon in the first place. Speed and stability were, and both are still genuinely present even as usage has moved elsewhere.
Where Things Actually Stand in 2026
Photon used to be the best Solana trading bot, full stop — before BullX arrived and took a huge chunk of its market share. (BullX has since shut down entirely.) Photon's own share independently fell from roughly 30.7% to under 10% during 2025, and the slide hasn't stopped: quarterly revenue is down to $1.7M in Q2 2026, from $4.91M in Q1, a small fraction of its $137.69M peak back in Q4 2024 (per DefiLlama). None of that is a security problem — it's a momentum problem. Photon is what happens when a genuinely good product stops shipping fast enough for a market that moves this quickly.
What Photon Still Does Well
Stability
Known for staying online even when other platforms go down during high-volatility periods.
Fast Execution
Execution is still genuinely quick — speed was the whole premise of the name.
Clean Interface
Simple, focused interface without overwhelming features. Does what you need without clutter.
Real Track Record
$40B+ in lifetime volume is real history, even if current volume has fallen a long way from the peak.
All of that is genuinely true, and none of it has been enough. Being stable and simple doesn't matter much if the feature set stops growing while Axiom and Fomo ship something new almost every week.
Risks to Be Aware Of
While Photon itself is safe, there are risks inherent to memecoin trading:
Trading Risks (Not Photon-Specific)
- ⚠ Market volatility: Memecoins can lose 90%+ value quickly
- ⚠ Rug pulls: Some tokens are outright scams
- ⚠ Smart contract risk: Tokens can have malicious code
These are risks of trading memecoins generally, not specific to Photon. Always do your own research before trading.
How to Stay Safe on Photon
- 1 Use a dedicated trading wallet
Never trade from your main wallet. Create a separate wallet just for trading.
- 2 Only use the official site
Bookmark photon-sol.tinyastro.io. Phishing sites exist.
- 3 Check safety warnings
Photon flags risky tokens in the live pair streams. Pay attention to warnings.
- 4 Enable Jito for MEV protection
Use Photon's Jito integration to protect against sandwich attacks.
Bottom Line
Photon is safe to use — non-custodial, no breaches, built by a real, longer-running company. But it's a fading product, not a growing one: real market share and revenue lost, mostly to Axiom and Fomo.
If you're already on Photon, there's no security reason to leave. If you're deciding where to start, Axiom or Fomo are the better call today — and if it's specifically copy trading or smart-money tracking you want, GMGN is worth a look too.
